A few of my favorite things

Image
Yes, I know this makes two posts for the day, but I'm making up for lost time, I guess. I just wanted to share with the world a couple of my very favorite things, so here they are, in no particular order. Drumroll please... 1. Nate! I guess that's kind of obvious. But in particular, I like going to the library with him. He loves to read. He'll go with a list of a few books to get and come out with at least ten that were not on his list every time. To his credit, he reads at least a paragraph of each one. 2. Addison's startle reflex. It's hilarious. Whenever he gets scared or surprised, he flings his arms straight out to his sides. It's very dramatic. 3. Our handy new baby carrier, compliments of Grandma W. Addison loves it! We go on walks with it, take trips to the laundry room, and now he even gets to help out in the kitchen. 4. Addison's toes. Need I say more?

Road trip

Image
Addison and Mom took a little road trip down to St. George with Grandma W on the Monday before Easter. Addison did great on the car ride down (we only had to change his outfit once!) We spent the week hanging out with and being spoiled by the in-laws and admiring our tiny brand new niece, Sonnet, who was born on St. Patrick's Day. What a cute kid! She was 5 1/2 weeks early and only weighed five pounds, so Addison looked like a giant in comparison. Other than the good company, the best thing about St. George was the weather!!! Addison didn't wear a onesie the whole time, and we had to have Nate bring down more short sleeved shirts when he came that weekend. Addison and I went on a walk every day, and, although he'd start out fully clothed, by the time we got back he usually wasn't wearing any socks or pants because it was so warm. We got to go play in the yard a little bit too, which was quite a novelty for us. Here's Addison sunning himself with his cool new toy in ...

I used to change his didies!

Addison is just growing like a weed. Not only is he bustin' out of several of his outfits, but his mom has cautiously ventured into the outside world (aka: the grocery store, the library, and around the block) with him all by herself! Woohoo! He's been practicing a few tricks to impress you all. So without further ado, I present... Trick #1: flexing his rippling neck muscles Trick #2: checking himself out Trick #3: discussing politics with Daddy What can I say - he's advanced for his age.

What not to suck

Image
So, in an earlier post, I mentioned that Addison sucks on mom and dad's fingers. Here's the refresher: So, without further ado, I present a (non-exhaustive) list of things that Addison will and will not suck on. Will not suck on: Pacifier His own fingers The floor Okay, reeeeally not exhaustive. Will suck on: Mom and dad's fingers His rubber ducky Mommy's nose!

Of Lewis Thomas and Eternal Progression

Image
So, since all we do around our house is read , I thought I might experiment with short book reviews. First up? I just finished Lewis Thomas's The Lives of a Cell: Notes of a Biology Watcher (1974). My ah-ha! moment came when I made a link between what he was saying and the Mormon belief in eternal progression . Speaking of the brain, Thomas writes: It is hard to see how we could be in possession of an organ so complex and intricate and, as it occasionally reveals itself, so powerful, and be using it on such a scale, just for the production of a kind of background noise. Somewhere, obscured by the snatches of conversation, pages of old letters, bits of book and magazines, memories of old movies, and the disorder of radio and television, there ought to be more intelligible signals. . . . The mechanism is there, and there is no doubt that it is already capable of functioning, even though the total yield thus far seems to consist largely of bits. After all, it has to be said that we...

The virtues of facebook

I just had to announce to the world that I am pleased with myself. I don't want to tell my hubby "I told you so," so I'll just tell everybody else. I told him so. See there's this wonderful little thing called facebook where you can keep up with just about all the friends you've ever had. Nate has always been too cool for it, but I finally convinced him to just sign up and if he hated it he could avoid looking at it ever again. And now he's seen the light. Not only did he sign up, he's got his profile all set up, and he's put pictures up and he's sent messages all over the place. And he likes it! Hooray for Natey!

Addison update 2

Before we get to the good stuff, take a minute and enter your email address over on the left there. Then you'll get an email whenever we update the blog. What more could you want? And by the way, we also removed the hoops you have to jump through to leave comments. Now you can just click on the bottom of the post (where it usually says "0 comments"), tell us how cute your grandson/nephew is, click the button next to "Name/URL," and enter your name. Was I explicit enough? Do it! If anyone even comes to this blog, we all know the reason is Addison, so here's some pictures to keep you coming back. It's still early in the day Sunday, so if he's feeling photogenic or we get ambitious, maybe we'll post more pics or even a video. By way of milestones, Addison is 3 months old yesterday. To celebrate, he only took two naps and slept for a whole 8 hours last night, which makes his mom think he's getting on a schedule! We also went to the library , and ...
