Life Is Good

I pause for a moment from eating a delicious piece of Father's Day cheesecake to reflect on my remarkable good fortune. The evidence:

Exhibit A. I have a perfect son. You'll excuse the exaggeration; why, it was just yesterday that I was completely exasperated at the little guy for taking a 4 1/2 minute nap and deciding that was enough to get him through the afternoon. But he's sleeping like a little champ right now, and he came and woke me up this morning with a huge grin, like he knew who I was, and he laughs at my funny faces and expertly scoots around backwards in his walker, and he SITS UP ON HIS OWN THESE DAYS! Doesn't get more perfect than that. And I hate to say this, but I often wonder if parents-to-be ever look at him and think, "Well, dang, there goes my chance to have the cutest baby in the world."

Exhibit B. I managed to marry the sweetest girl that ever was. Without getting overly mushy, I'm just blown away by her caring and sensitivity. Addison's so lucky to have her as a mom; she reads to him, sings to him, is endlessly patient, and constantly puts him before herself. And she's so good to me. For Dad's Day she made me a calendar with pictures created from Addison's hand prints, foot prints, and yes, even bum prints:

And this evening she spent 20 minutes digging through all our boxes (packed because we planned to move yesterday but can't until next Saturday) looking for the garlic because I wanted garlic bread with my spaghetti. I can't even begin to imagine all the little sacrifices she makes for me that I don't know about. She's a wonderful conversationalist, and I am constantly impressed with her insights. She's an ideal fellow explorer, the only person I know who would spend more time looking at the flowers on the edge of the Grand Canyon than the Grand Canyon itself. And, in case I haven't embarrassed her enough, she's also smokin' hot.

  1. I'm glad you enjoyed the bum-prints, Nate. And I'm glad you love my sister. Isn't she just awesome?
