A Brief Interlude - One for the Books

I woke up grumpy this morning for no reason. I hoped that hopping back in bed and sleeping for another 15 minutes after sending Nate off to work would cure it. It was not to be, however, because Addison decided to get an early start on the day. So the morning routine began.

A nice greeting, a diaper change, pausing briefly to say hello in the mirror, and downstairs for a bottle. After a few man-sized belches (from him, not me) I plop Add into his walker to scoot around the kitchen, play with toys, and go number two (sorry - it really is the routine) while I have a bowl of cereal and check my email. After a couple minutes of scooting and grunting, I hear him start to whine. I figured he'd dropped his toy, and shoveled in a few more spoonfuls of Fruity Cheerios before going to retrieve it for him. I was right about the toy, but he had a much bigger problem on his hands, or should I say feet. There was my cute little boy sitting in his walker in his jammies unable to move because somehow (I cannot figure it out) what was meant to be in his diaper was on the kitchen floor for his slipping and sliding pleasure. His legs and feet were coated and I was completely flabbergasted. I mopped yesterday, by the way.

Not knowing what else to do, I grabbed him under the arms and whisked him off to the empty bathtub to try to keep it contained while I did disaster control. Thanking the Lord that I'd bought more wipes at the store yesterday (we were down to two) I went to work, peeling off the onesie and the diaper, which was still full despite the huge deposit on the kitchen floor. I looked up just in time to see him making an "ick" face after sucking on his chocolate-covered toe. Wow. So I attempted to clean off his hand and his mouth, dumped all the grossness in the trash can, and left him in the empty tub for about 10 seconds to go get a washrag so I could bathe him. I came back to find him laying in a puddle. Nice.

He really enjoyed being in the tub while it filled up. It was rather cute to watch him play with the water as it came out, and he was just so smiley, so I decided to be friends with him again, despite his obvious lack of remorse.

After a good scrub of the boy and the kitchen floor, we're none the worse for wear. And somehow my grumpiness was cured, which makes no sense to me, but I'll take it. Maybe it's because I'm absolutely positive that this little ordeal has earned me a gold-plated pool in my mansion up above.
