Projects
I've been puzzling over why September has been a slow blogging month for us, and I think I've got it figured out. Projects.
I think I am one of the most ambitious people on earth (normal people - not like Napoleon or anything) when it comes to projects. I love getting an idea and tackling it. But I am very extremely bad at following through with what I've begun. It's not that I don't want to see it through to the end, it's just that there are more exciting things out there to get started on.
Laundry is the same way. Every Monday and Thursday I push it through the washer and dryer like nobody's business. Once it's time to fold I've undoubtedly lost some steam, but almost always finish at least half of it. And then I have to put it away? You must be joking. I think it might be some sort of disorder. I hate to think I'm just lacking self-discipline, although that's probably the case.
The extent of my starting-without-finishing issues are far-reaching. I have at least two boxes and a cedar chest full of projects. I am ashamed to say that I started a couple of them in elementary school. Can you believe that?! I also have a table in our study and a bag hanging in the downstairs closet filled with more current ones. I feel that it would not be an exaggeration at all to say I must be in the middle of 20 projects right now, not including our yard, which is another issue entirely.
Here are a few of them:
Addison's scrapbook, compiling all my recipes into a book, knitting a scarf, finishing a really ugly afghan that I started as a Personal Progress goal back in the day, crocheting a pair of mittens that I can't keep from coming to a point at the end, four tissue boxes, a plastic canvas rainbow with a wise saying (that's the elementary school one), a cross-stitched cat with flowers that I started in middle school, a pink corduory skirt that has so much potential, two quilts that don't really have a purpose, and I'm just getting started.
Anyway, back to the sparseness of blog posts as of late. I now have two gigantic projects that I have deadlines for, and another one that Nate was kind enough to point out is "too big for your bag of unfinished projects." In fact it's taking up the entire family room as we speak and has been since Saturday. And it has to be done by Sunday because we're having company. I won't reveal what these projects are in hopes that the prospect of a gigantic audience breathlessly waiting to know will inspire me to actually finish and be able to blog about them then. Nate's already promised to author the blog post of the century when I finish one of them. Top that off with visits to and visitors from St. George and Nate's insane work and school schedule, and I believe I've solved the mystery. So here's to ambition. I'll let you know when I've followed through.

ReplyDeleteI am exactly like you! I even plan out a schedule for all of my stuff but then I just start of doing the first day and maybe the second before I just stop completly. You should give me a ring sometime so that we can plan out what to do!:)
Love,Jen
Hahaha I can't believe all of your projects. I am waiting breathlessly for your big project!!!
ReplyDeleteBut I am totally that way with laundry--there have been a couple times when I had to put away the clean laundry when I need the laundry baskets again... to do more laundry. Yikes.
You better hurry. I'm waiting breathlessly. ;-)
