A Little Surprise

Well, I'm awfully glad we decided to postpone my surgery, which had been rescheduled for today. But had I gone under the knife, I would have woken up to a beautiful sight:

HOORAY! She's 27 days early, but she's healthy as can be, at a very respectable 5 lbs 7 oz, 18.5 inches, with a shock of dark hair up top. The labor and delivery went unbelievably smoothly - I stepped off the train at 12:50 this afternoon, we got to the hospital at 1:45, Mich was dilated to a 7, and within 5.3 minutes of the doctor walking in we had a baby girl in our arms, at 4:51 pm. I'll let Michelle write her version of the thing later, lest I make it sound TOO easy. All I can say is, When am I going to learn to not second-guess my wife when she says things like, "Maybe you should come home from work early today"?



I'll also let Michelle chime in when we finally getting around to naming the little lump of humanity. Hopefully that'll come before her original due date.

Nate the daredevil

We had one more adventure last Saturday that Nate was too embarrassed to write about. Before our hiking excursion we went to Liberty Park to feed the ducks. Addison had a great time in his stroller soaking up some rays and watching the lake and the people and the birds. We tried hard to avoid the seagulls, which are gross if you've never had much contact with them, and to get to the two ducks that were around, but competition for that bread was pretty fierce, so Nate decided to make the geese work for it (since they're the only ones that would). The documented evidence makes me wonder who was working harder, though, and who was more scared. Must be those ferocious beaks or the powerful weapons they like to call webbed feet. Golden Parenting Moments

Several weeks ago, Nate woke up feeling gung-ho on a Saturday morning and decided we were going on a family sledding trip. I was a grump, but went along with it anyway. By the time we found a decent place and got a good trail worn down the kids got snow in their drawers and it was time to go. We had a great time, obviously. Poor Nate! .
