A Name and the Delivery
After several months of tossing around names from a list of about 20, we're pleased to announce that we finally decided on one that we love and that fits our teeny little girl to a tee: Bryn Annalee.
Nate was definitely not lying about a great delivery. I really cannot believe how smoothly everything went. I called him home from work (which takes him about an hour and a half) not sure whether it was a good idea or not. About five minutes after he walked in the door, though, I decided that even if it wasn't the real thing, I was going to the hospital and not leaving till they made it stop. Unprepared, of course, we ran around grabbing stuff for Addison, Mommy, and one last burrito for Dad, and then booked it to the car, the babysitter, and the hospital, where we got stuck behind an "Angus Beef" truck going about 1 mile an hour. I wanted to kill him. The contractions were about 1 to 2 mins apart at this point, and they were pretty excruciating.
Once the nurses realized that I did know what I was talking about and I really needed them to hurry it up (dialated to a 7, just like with Addison) they were all awesome, except the one who gave me the i.v., but she was gone before long. I've gotta say that my plan this time around was to chill, manage the pain, and go with the flow - during and after she came. I wasn't so good about that last time. But I tell you what - I now know what the big deal about epidurals is. Last time I didn't ever push the button that gives you more - this time I think I had about 50 doses. I'm surprised it didn't run out. I was so, so comfortable. A couple hours passed, they broke the water, which was apparently plentiful, and all of a sudden everybody started running all over the place getting dressed and set up, because there was a head full of hair. A tiny push and a half later (with Addison it felt like I pushed for 3 days straight. It was exhausting and really painful) there she was! It was unbelievable! So Add took about 5 hours to deliver, and we shaved off about an hour and a half of that for Bryn.
Another amazing thing is nursing. It is going really well. Addison and I had a really REALLY rough time with it last time, I think mainly because I was an emotional, freaked-out basket case who didn't want to use formula but couldn't get her baby to latch on. Bryn does a good job of latching on, but because she's so small, she has trouble keeping up her blood sugar. So at feeding time, we nurse on one side and then have formula. It is great!
Well, Dad and big brother have arrived, so it's time to sign off. But if all goes well we'll all go home tomorrow.
Congrats you guys! Glad to know all is well...and don't worry, there are two parents so two kids will be a walk in the park. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! :)
ReplyDeleteAwww, what a cutie! Congratulations!! What a big surprise to come so early! But I'm glad that everything worked out well. And I'm quite jealous of your short labor, although mine wasn't terribly long. And, did I mention that she's gorgeous??
