Coldwater Canyon

Happy Pioneer Day! (a couple of days late...)
We spent our Pioneer Day sweating like dogs in the yard and hiking with the kiddos. Nate picked a hike that claimed to be good for a hot day, packed some snacks, and we were off. Coldwater Canyon was beautiful! The trail was basically deserted - we saw one group of people on our way out and that was it.
No clue what this thing is, but it was at the trailhead and we thought it was cool.
The kids did great on the way in. Addison is really into waterfalls these days. He considers even water making a drop of a half inch a full-blown waterfall, so after we told him we were going to see some, he led the charge up some pretty wild switchbacks without even batting an eye.
Brynny was content riding on Daddy's back.
I got this great view bringing up the rear.
The scenery was lovely and the shade was definitely welcome.
There were a few fun little bridges (complete with waterfalls) that Addison and Bryn loved, and the stream was so pretty.

We stopped at one point to take off our shoes and wade around a little bit, but about the time we got the last sock off, we realized we were surrounded by wasps and made a hasty retreat back up the hill. In the process I managed to kick one of Addison's shoes down the hill through some thick brush. By this point the kids were getting a bit whiny (perhaps because naps were supposed to be 2 and a half hours ago), so we pulled up some trail and let them run/crawl around as we searched and searched and searched. Sadly, the shoe is no more.
So Add got to ride back in the backpack while I carried Bryn. I only fell once, and she did NOT appreciate it.
We made it home and let the kids nap while finishing up in the yard (and continuing to pour sweat). To end it all we grilled hamburgers and enjoyed the best watermelon we've had all season.

  2. 2 things:
    1. Your children have the most incredible eyes. EVER.
    2. My favorite part of this post was Bryn's ankle rolls. I have a thing for fat baby ankles.
