Nate Turns 28
A couple weekends ago we celebrated Nate's birthday. It was quite a to-do. We happened to have my sister Megan visiting with us on her way up to BYU-Idaho. My sister Beck and her hubby Ben also joined in the festivities.
Poor Nate spent the majority of the day at school working on homework in the lab, but we made up for lost time when we got home. I spent the majority of the afternoon making food for a killer bbq including ribs (which we make roughly once a year) and dutch oven potatoes (thanks to my pa-in-law, the dutch oven king himself). Nate came home and I put him right to work on the grill and dutch oven, and man was it good, if I do say so myself. After stuffing ourselves silly, we sat around and watched Nate open presents, which is always fun.
The best one was definitely from his parents: The Papers of Joseph Smith, which are basically the original Joseph Smith Papers project. Nate happens to work with Dean Jesse, the guy who put 'em together, so they are now both autographed. Fancy!
After present time we all headed outside to try out Nate's new yard toy from his mom, the queen of yard toys. It was pretty sweet - a light-up helicopter thingy. We managed to get it stuck in the tree a time or two, but it was rescued.
I won't name names, but a certain brother-in-law ended up losing it over the fence. So it was lucky that we had a healthy stash of rocket balloons to console ourselves with.
"Snow Addison" (no clue where he got that one) and Brynny had fun playing outside.
We waited till the kids were in bed to have cheesecake (although we did save them a piece).
Nate showed his grace and agility (despite his old age) by almost dropping it and then rescuing it. Unfortunately the only way he could do it was by sticking his hand right in the middle.
It was still yummy, though. So we had somewhat mangled cheesecake, played the original Memory (which my mom sent to us), and closed the evening with that old American classic, House.
Hey I made ribs for Roland's Birthday too. Yummy! Happy Birthday Nate!
