Memorial Day in St. George

Nate presented a paper on Zion Canyon at the Mormon History Association meeting in St. George, so we took a five-day vacation there. It was a great, relaxing trip. On the way down we met up with Shauna and Doug and Juliann and met our new nephew Jackson. They were in Salt Lake for a wedding, and we wished we could have spent more time with them.

Nate presented Saturday morning and the session went well. While he went to meetings all day Friday and Saturday, Michelle and the kids played outside, including at the splash pad. They were kind of wary of the whole thing, but they dipped their toes in a bit and spent most of their time on the playground nearby.

One of the funnest parts of the trip was taking a tour of the St. George Tabernacle with an LDS Historic Sites tour guide. We climbed up a steep flight of stairs into the attic, seeing the trusses hewn by pioneer hands, and then we climbed up lots of ladders into the bell tower. We rang the bell, saw the original clockwork, and walked out onto the two balconies up in the tower. Pretty cool.

Friday we took Addison and Bryn to Pioneer Park, and Bryn and Nate went through the skinnies. She was pretty freaked, but she was very proud when she made it through, and said repeatedly, "Did it."

Monday morning it was a bit too cold for a trip up to Zion, and Kanarra Creek was too high, so we went to Snow Canyon and hiked on the Three Ponds Trail with Grandma and Grandpa. Addison was fearless when it came to rock climbing.

Abbey kindly agreed to do family pictures for us, and then when the first round didn't quite turn out (Bryn wouldn't smile), she graciously agreed to do a second.

  2. Like a billion. But Abbey was kind and just deleted the ridiculously bad ones so we only had to choose from a few.
