Lots of Fun on Halloween

We have been livin' up the Halloween season this year. I really wanted to use it as an excuse to spend quality time with the kiddos doing fun stuff during the day and I think we've done pretty well. Here are some of our projects from throughout the month.

Tissue ghosts
Q-tip skeletons
Balloon jack-o-lanterns
Spider cupcakes

The kids really enjoyed making the crafts and decorating their rooms with them. I've enjoyed setting aside a little quality time just for them.

The fabulous Indian summer we've gotten has let us be a little lazy with cleaning up the yard for winter, but it's given us some nice sunny days to do some of this.

Just had to toss this one in. He's in a hole that we dug potatoes from. Any guesses on what he decided to be for Halloween?
We lucked out one nice Saturday and just happened to be at the nursery when they were giving hayrides to their pumpkin patch. We ended up getting the tractor ride and four pumpkins for free!

Last Monday night we decided it was carving time. My pumpkin sacrificed for the greater good and gave us a delicious dinner.

We had a little more fun with the other ones.

Friday night was our ward's Halloween party. The kids got all dressed up and we headed to a street in the ward for a hot dog dinner and costume parade/trick-or-treating. The kids were SO excited for it! Especially Addison. He's been wearing various pieces of his Halloween costume pretty much every day this month. The hat actually used to be Nate's from back in the day. Bryn was Elmo, although she refused to wear her hat for any time other than the pictures. So she was a girl wearing red with really staticky hair while Nate worked the hat for her. A big thanks to Grandma and Grammie for all your help on the costumes! We all got our fill of candy and scary/gross costumes (Addison's sleeping with the light on at this very moment, in fact), so we'll probably skip out on trick-or-treating on real-live Halloween.

Tonight the kids got their traditional Halloween jammies from Grandma and Grandpa, and we had fun coloring in the new coloring books they got too. In the background you can see Addison's candy chain. I can't believe how much candy the kids ended up with after Friday. So we made them each a little chain to count down to Thanksgiving. They get one piece every day after they're done getting ready.

And all the candy has given us a good excuse to redouble our teeth-brushing efforts. Cute kids!

  1. I love the chain idea. We would totally do it, but I already told the kids to eat all of theirs (they are almost done) cause I was sick of hearing, 'mom, just one more piece.... all I really want to eat is candy!" Very cute pictures of you guys!
