The Boy Turns 4

We celebrated Addison's birthday on December first. I can't believe that my baby is four! It was a great day. As a special unplanned bonus, Daddy worked from home, because all the wind damage would've tacked hours onto his commute. He made Addison's life when he burst through the door with a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday and a bunch of balloons.

Addison helped me make these lion cupcakes to take to his friends at joy school.

Addison was so sweet with his balloons. He gave the yellow and purple ones to Bryn and the orange one to Daddy. Addison and Bryn braved the cold and wind to go outside and ride bikes with balloons tied on them. They had a blast!

We had a birthday picnic lunch in the family room.

Addison loved getting cards in the mail.

After the birthday supper (cream tuna) Addison elected to open presents before cake. He'd been dying to do it all day. And he got quite a haul.

Side note: I have a picture of me when I was little that looks exactly like Bryn in this picture.

I busted my fanny to finish a new quilt for his bed in time for his birthday. He was sure excited.

I swiped the cake idea from one my Mom did a few years ago, and the kids loved it. It's a train, if you can't tell.

Mid-cake-eating phone call from his aunties wishing him happy birthday.

And to wrap it up, a few of Addison's most loveable traits at age four:
- He LOVES superheroes of any kind.
- He has a very tender heart and is a very kind big brother to Bryn most of the time. He's very good at sharing and helping her to find other toys when she takes his.
- He's entered the realm of make-believe play and dreams up pretty imaginative scenarios and always loves it when Mom and Dad play along.
- He tries hard to be included in the dinner conversation. If Nate and I are talking over his head too much, his most frequent way to get himself into the conversation goes something like this, "Hey Dad? Have you ever seen the movie De-Jellies De-Jellies De-Jellies De-Jellies?" It is hilarious. At least the first 5 times or so.
- His mind seems to have an infinite capacity to soak up information. If I mention spiders he'll tell me how many legs and eyes they have. On Sunday he saw a picture on the wall of the church that he recognized and he told me where he'd seen it before. When we're driving he can tell me whether we're going north, south, east, or west. It's just amazing how much can fit in that little head of his!
