Birth story post still to come. In the meantime, here are a few things of note from the past few days.
Chickens
They eat cat food. Who knew? Also, one of them started crowing. It's very unfortunate, because it was Addison's favorite, Buzz Lightyear. We had a date all lined up to turn him into a freezer meal, and then at the last minute a friend's brother just happened to need a rooster for his new farm, where I'm sure Buzz is now enjoying his choice of the ladies.
Addison
The poor boy has been throwing up (and down) for the past two days. Thank heavens for friends who will run to the store and get Gatorade and pull-ups for us. He is also currently fascinated by ocean life.
Bryn
Cut her hair yesterday all by herself. I'm still saying prayers of gratitude that she bypassed the gorgeous foot-long ringlet pigtails and just went for a little bit in the front. Either way, scissors are off-limits for a little while. She is very proud to be a big sister and really enjoys supplying Leah with her pacifier and giving her exciting rides in the baby swing.
Leah
Went from 9:00 to 5:00 between feedings on Sunday night!!! Although it will probably never happen again, I really liked it. She continues to be a champion eater and sleeper and is gaining weight very well. She's up to 8 lbs 7 oz as of the doctor trip today. She's quite loveable and snuggly. Today was a red-letter day because she lost almost all of her "raisin" (aka: umbilical cord) at the doctor during her PKU test. And we took her on her first hike last Saturday.
Nate
Submitted a proposal, "Untangling the Theological Roots of the Wilderness Crisis in the American West," to a conference of the International Society for the Study of Religion, Nature, and Culture. The paper looks at Mormon influence on the wilderness debates about the Colorado Plateau. And he found out yesterday his proposal was accepted. And the conference just happens to be in Malibu. By the beach. Oh yeah. Nate wowed his wifey this morning by comforting a vomiting child, changing throw-up sheets, and finishing planting our garden all before he left for work. What a guy.

Has now survived three whole days of going it alone with the kiddos and is here telling the tale. And made it through the initial solo outing with all three in tow this morning when we took Leah to the doctor. Two of the children were pajama-clad and another had very short spiky hair in the front. I prayed the whole time that pajama-clad child #1 would not vomit all over the place. And I came home and realized I'd left my straightener on the whole time we'd been gone.

Oh, life with 3. Sigh. It's quite the adventure. I hope Addison feels better soon and that it doesn't spread like wildfire to the rest of you. The weird thing is that right after I came home from the hospital with our 3rd baby, our oldest came down with a stomach virus too. Do you think it's some kind of conspiracy? Luckily, in our case it didn't spread, so maybe the rest of your fam is safe.
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures! From this post and the last one. Your first solo outing with 3 kids (one of them sick) pretty much makes you my hero. And you've already taken Leah on a hike?! You are amazing!
ReplyDeleteMichelle, i think it's time to accept the fact that you are Wonder Woman...in sweats & a cute sweater. :)

Yep, sounds about right! Motherhood suits you well:)
ReplyDeleteWay to go Shell! You are amazing. I hope no one else gets Addison's bug and I'm really glad Bryn didn't cut her ringlets off. I'm also glad that Buzz found a new home. Love you guys! Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteDitto what Shauna said. I loved your Buzz comment about his choice of the ladies. P.S. How long have you guys had chickens? Way to go Nate on having your proposal accepted. We think you're a rill smart feller ;) Way to rock it with 3 you guys! We may need to take some notes when we start planning for #3.
