Party in Rexburg!

The first weekend in October we made the three-hour trek up to Rexburg, Idaho to visit Megan and Sam and pick some apples. BYU Idaho has an orchard with like 120 varieties of apples and they were pick-your-own for fifty cents a pound. We had a blast picking peaches earlier this year, and were excited to take the kids to pick again. The car ride was great (thank you technology), and we found Meg and Sam's cute apartment without any trouble.
Their apartment is really nice. Perfectly clean and good-smelling, with love messages written in lipstick on every non-porous surface. They are definitely living up being newlyweds, and it is just cute.

We headed over to the apple orchard shortly after arriving and got excited as we hauled out laundry baskets and read the poster about the different varieties of apples, talking about apple pie all the while. But we soon discovered that something was missing.
That would be the apples. Row after row of beautiful apple trees picked completely clean. Shucks. On the bright side, the weather was pretty and the kids got to climb a tree or too. Addison even watered one. Ha.

And Leah got to wear her hat! Couldn't you just squish her? I love babies in the fall!

The research gardens by the orchard were really cool, and we wandered around them for a little while and came up with a fabulous plan b.

The straw maze! Basically a corn maze, except straw. The kids thought it was the coolest thing ever. There's a Curious George about going through a corn maze, so they knew exactly what to do. I was nursing a hip injury, so I limped along in the back and had frequent heart attacks when Addison and Bryn went out of sight. Nate and Megan and Sam triple-teamed the two of them, and miraculously no one got lost. Nate carried Leah and enjoyed inhaling straw dust, which I think he is still sneezing from. But we totally made it. Out the exit, not even the entrance. Oh yeah.

Dead end.

And then we saw elk on the way home. They must have a constant headache with those massive antlers.

After that we headed back to Meg and Sam's place and had some Pizza Hut and sent the boys off to priesthood. Then Meg and I took the kids to McDonalds for an ice cream cone and some much-needed playplace time. She and I and Leah played rummy and I got my trash kicked. It was fun, especially since Nate and Sam aren't exactly the biggest fans of rummy. After that we headed back to meet the gents at the apartment and we put on a movie for the kids and the grownups had some Nielsen's frozen custard. Oh. my. word. That stuff is so good.

We all slept while Nate drove home (thanks Dr. Pepper) and made it back around 1:00. All in all, a great trip. We all had a good time. And despite the apple snafu, it was really great to see Meg and Sam and hang out on their stompin' grounds.
