l'elephant

I believe it's high time we had a little talk about the elephant in the room. That would be me.

This picture is from a month or so ago and I'm pretty sure every part of my body has at least doubled in size since then.

We're having a baby! It's all sort of flown by, and then this morning I woke up and was in the third trimester. Here's a synopsis.

Trimester 1: Sicker than I remember ever being with any other baby. Nausea and headaches. And somehow we timed it to be right in the thick of canning season again. We should really make a "note to self" somewhere for when we're planning these things. Our garden blessed a lot of our neighbors this year, simply because the thought of looking at one more tomato made me want to vomit violently. And that was after looking at like 5, total. And we had 20 tomato plants this year. We did can a lot of tomato sauce, salsa, peaches, applesauce and green beans despite it all. Anyway, that pretty much sums it up. Sick and tired. No vomiting, though. I don't believe in that junk.

We decided to go with a new doctor, thanks to our old one being totally lame at the last delivery. She's actually a midwife, but in a good way. As far as I can tell, she doesn't believe in squatting in a ditch to give birth, but she does like to give the bod a chance to do what it was made to do, on its own.

Trimester 2: The waistline rapidly expanded. Quicker than with any other baby, just like everybody says. The sickness subsided, but I got lots of headaches that really needed ibuprofen, which of course I can't take. So Coke and sleep became my new medication. I don't like Coke, but I do like sleep, so it all works out in the end, I suppose.

And we found out the gender. It's all been such a blur that I think it was a good move, just to make it seem more real for Nate and me. Nate and Bryn were sure it was a boy, and Addison and I just knew it'd be a girl. I have never guessed correctly, and my record stands. A boy it is! I was extremely surprised. No name yet. Give us until at least a few days after we deliver the baby on that one.

Trimester 3: Well, we've been here for one day, but I think the nesting bug is finally beginning to bite. We did some good organizing today and the wheels are continually turning in my head as I try to calculate the best way to set up Leah's room to fit her and the little guy. Also, I feel huge.

And that's it in an nutshell! April 26th is the due date, and we're excited for the little guy to arrive.

  2. Yay!! A boy! That is fun! I feel you with the first trimester too. For me it timed out to be right when my poor plants needed the most attention. We had some nice looking plants out there that were given just enough attention to remain alive. I got some tomatoes off and managed to care just enough to chop them up and throw them in the freezer. It's a good thing our dog likes tomatoes. After a few weeks of freezing what I could, I gave up and let the dog eat whatever he wanted. Now we might have to move so I can have a dog free garden again 'cause 3 years of "stay out of the garden" training went down the drain. Oh well.

P.S. I think you look great!

  3. Nice picture. :) And hooray for nesting! I should plan a visit so I can borrow some of your crafty/cleany/organizy energy.
