Recovery
I tell you what: recovering from giving birth is no joke. Having done it 3.5 times now, I don't know how those farm women in the 1800s with 12 children did it. That said, it is happening. Slowly, but surely I'm seeing little signs of beginning to get the good ol' bod back. I can roll over in bed now in less than 15 seconds, for example. Progress!
It's been enjoyable hearing from friends and family since our little new arrival. Everyone has been so kind. Two of my very faves:
This from Nate's grandparents: "2 boys and 2 girls. How clever of you."
And from an old coworker of Nate's: "I really like Old Testament names. You always can be sure they will sound good over a hospital loudspeaker paging a famous surgeon, or a bailiff telling the people in the courtroom to rise, for Judge Asa W_____. Benjamin has the same nice heft (or he can use both names)."
Someday when I'm old I want to write things like that to people when they have babies.
A big thanks to all our friends in the ward who have been so kind and brought us dinners and treats and baby things and called to check on us. We are so lucky to have a true ward family.
I've got to say, that I don't know what in the world Nate and I would have done without this cute lady.
I daresay those kids appear to be thriving. Way to go, Grandma!

She slept on our couch in our family room with pretty much no privacy for over a week, so that she could take care of our little ones, do the grocery shopping, cook and clean up after every meal, do load after load of dishes, fold giant mountains of laundry, paint faces, provide Nate and I with a nap almost every day, fend off visitors at the door, clean out the vacuum, take family photos, team up with Nate to fix the dryer, cheer for Bryn at soccer, and the list goes on and on. And she did it with grace and a smile. Even when our almost-two-year-old was a stinkpot. The night after she left, as Nate and I got started on the dishes, he commented on his surprise that the dishwasher doesn't just empty itself. Best mother-in-law ever. Thank you doesn't even begin to express our appreciation.
And some photo documentation:
The aforementioned stinkpot.
I daresay those kids appear to be thriving. Way to go, Grandma!
