Asa's Baby Blessing
We blessed Asa in church on Sunday, June first. It was such a special day. Asa was adorable in his little outfit and slept right through it all, which is always a relief. No huge spit up or blowout catastrophes this time around.
Nate and I were both emotional during church that day. We are so very blessed to have each other and our beautiful children, and it was such a treat to have almost all Nate's side of the family there for the blessing - siblings, parents, some nieces, and his cousin Jessie.
The men who stood in the circle were: Nate, Grandpa, Uncles Aaron, Micah and Devon, Bishop Moyes and his counselors Brother Bybee and Brother Sumner, and our dear friends from the ward, Brother Gerald Grove and Larry Horspool. We also asked Brother Dave Gremillion to participate, but he had to be out of town that day.
Nate gave a beautiful blessing. Kim helped me take some notes during the blessing and I wanted to include them in this post.
- Your family is happy to have you.
- blessed with health that you will grow and develop and your body will function properly.
- your mind will develop and you will be happy and curious and have a love of learning.
- blessed to have a good relationship with your family
- you will come to know God and Jesus Christ for yourself, and have a foundation of faith that will orient you through the storms of life
- blessed to find good men like those surrounding you in the circle as your examples.
- continue on to receive other saving ordinances - baptism, priesthood, go to the temple, serve a mission, be married in the temple and begin your own family.
- blessed with charity for others. That you will follow the example of your mother and seek those who are lonely, in need, and forgotten. That by finding them you will be following Jesus.
I bore my testimony later in the meeting, and mentioned being keenly aware of the absence of my own side of the family. I wish they could have been there for this special day! And I have missed my mom and sisters so much as I've tried to get used to this change in our family. The Lord has blessed us richly, however, with a wonderful ward that has become like a part of our family. They are so aware of us and concerned that our needs are met. In fact, during the week following the blessing, one of the older ladies in our ward who has eight children of her own stopped by out of the blue with cookies "just because." We chatted for a minute, commiserated about the combo of broken bones and newborns (she broke an arm with one of hers), and she told me to be sure to get enough vitamin D and calcium. Then she said she was sorry I was missing my mom and told me to call anytime, gave me a hug and was off.
The fam all met up at our house after church to have lunch and hang out together. We had a great time eating and chewing the fat, and everybody pitched in with the food and clean-up. The weather couldn't have been better. It was a great way to celebrate our little Asa and this special day for our family.

Not quite the entire family - Amber wasn't able to make it. But pretty darn close.
More like reality. And Nate's giving Dayson a wedgie.
I love this picture! Sky's finger heading for her nose, Dayson being a nine-year-old boy, Trin's hand on Asa's head, Grandpa attempting to help everyone say "cheese" and Grandma finding it funny.
I got misty eyed reading the blessing. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blessing and beautiful family! So glad you have such a wonderful ward. If only I had limitless resources, I would have been there in a heart beat. Love you, sis!
