One Last Georgia Post: Adventures

The tale of three adventures.

Ryan and Kaylyn showed us this amazing chimney right on their property. It looks like an old homestead, complete with old glass bottles and other archaeological artifacts. How cool is that Michelle's family OWNS ruins?

Michelle and I always have a bit of a tug of war when it comes to the annual trip to Georgia. She gets to Mom and Dad's house and understandably wants to stay put, just bask in the glow of being Home. I really enjoy that, too, but it's also fun to get out and explore, get to know the lay of the land. One of these years I'm going to finally convince her to go to Savannah, but in the meantime we have started taking at least one day trip each year - usually to the mountains in the north.

This year, Michelle's stress fracture meant she was out of commission for some things. So one night I took Addison, Bryn, Ryan, and Kaylyn to Stone Mountain. We got to drive in Dad's fancy new car, Ryan was a great navigator in the front seat with the GPS, and we stocked up lots of candy for the laser show.

We got there with just enough time to hustle up to the top.

I carried Bryn part of the way but everybody was a trooper.

It was the last night of the laser show before the end of summer, and it was packed. The show was delightful and cheesy as always.

The Waite family excursion this year ended up being to Tallulah Gorge. We had a great time hiking all the way around it, including across a suspension bridge, and seeing all the waterfalls.

It goes without saying, but Michelle is hard core in her boot. I won't mention that she was totally resisting the idea of taking the family on all those stairs but then we rocked it.

Beautiful country. This is why Wallace Stegner said that to live in the West, you have to get over the color green.

Nappin'.

Can't wait for next year! Savannah and Tybee Island are calling...
