Asa's a Big Boy

I've just got to post about Asa. He's grown up like a weed over the past three months or so. It is so encouraging to see him growing, learning, and mellowing out a little!

I can definitely tell they're related.

- His vocabulary has at least doubled. As a result, we are now able to reason with him more than ever before. I needed that bad! I think I have some version of PTSD because of past outings with this child. Taking him anywhere still makes me extremely anxious. But he really is getting to be much more cooperative. In fact, I've been ordering groceries online for the past several months in large part because I've dreaded going out with Asa. But for the past two weeks we've gone, in the flesh, to the store, and it has gone amazingly well! I even let Asa walk for part of it!

- He is potty trained! Woohoo! I started him on a whim, and he was amazing at it! My easiest ever by far! To this day, he has never once had a #2 accident!

- Asa tells jokes! His favorite ones are, "Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to his nest!" And also any that follow this pattern, "Knock knock. Who's there? Frog. Frog who? Frog!" It's adorable.

- He quit his pacifier. It happened spontaneously with the hand foot and mouth he had over the Christmas break. I think it just hurt his mouth too badly to suck on it, poor little guy. So once he was better, Nate and I saw our opportunity and took it. So no more sucker!

- Along with the sucker, he quit naps. He'll still take the occasional one, but they are mostly few and far between. I am anxiously awaiting the day when he catches on to the concept of quiet time.

- The singing. Oh, how I love it! Asa especially loves to belt it out in the car. His 4 most frequently-sung songs are "Fight Song," "Follow the Prophet," "Book of Mormon Stories," and "Okay," from The Piano Guys.

He's also learned a little Suzuki rhythm from our piano teacher. He can play the "peanut butter sandwich" rhythm, and does it every week for Sister Smith after Addison and Bryn finish their lessons. That way he gets a treat just like them!
