January House Project: Game Room
This year we have a goal to tackle one pretty major house project per month. Nate's editing a book on the side to help with the cash flow to reach our goal. January's project was our game room. Nate's parents got a new tv for Christmas and were looking for a home for their old one. We offered to take it off their hands, and decided that the game room was the perfect home for it. We used that as our jumping-off point to design and organize it just the way we wanted. We worked our buns off. Most of the post-kids-in-bed time we had in January was spent in the game room. We are very excited about the results! Here's the before and after!
Before:
As you can see from the photo and video, there wasn't much to love about it.
Here's Nate to take you on a tour of the new and improved game room.
Here's the list of what we did:
- Organized games and closets.
- Cleaned all the surfaces.
- Painted the ceiling white.
- Painted the walls gray.
- Ordered and installed bamboo roman shades
- Ordered, hung, and returned curtains that weren't quite right.
- Bought fabric and made and hung new curtains.
- Sanded cabinets. Painted them blue, sealed them, and added new handles.
- Painted and installed a pegboard to help keep the games organized.
- Ordered, framed and hung posters of some of our special places. This is our favorite part!
- Hauled the tv up from St. George.
- Scored a five dollar tv stand from KSL.
- Hauled our old couches to DI.
- Found an amazing lazyboy sectional on KSL. Got a babysitter, rented a moving truck, and went on a Valentine's Day date to pick it up in Park City, where the nice people gave us 20 dollars off.
- Vacuumed dog hair off the couch for an entire afternoon. Also disinfected it.

It looks amazing! I am highly impressed. I love the posters and how you redid the cabinets. Really I love it all. And you did such a good job documenting it! I need to be better at that. Good job guys!!
ReplyDeleteAlso that teepee is really cool.
This is amazing! Love all the work you did here. My favorites are the posters too.
